During an update to the Steam Client for ARM devices, Valve accidentally published eight instructional videos for its upcoming Steam Frame VR headset. Before the company could remove them, users spotted, saved and shared the clips online. Valve subsequently released some of the videos officially while leaving the rest circulating freely.

None of the footage reveals shocking new details, but it does offer a close look at how the headset works in practice. One video demonstrates the sign-in process, which lets users scan a QR code by pointing their phone camera at one of the headset's lenses. Another covers basic fit, humorously showing people wearing the headset over their mouths or like a purse.

Hardware details

The most notable videos cover the interpupillary distance adjustment wheel, which includes a sliding lock, along with several ergonomic accessories. These include hand straps for the controllers, an additional support strap running across the top of the head, and an extended light blocker for people with smaller noses. The face gasket and an optional eye spacer attach magnetically for easy swapping, while the charging port sits in a battery pack on the back of the head strap.

In total, eight videos surfaced: unboxing, basic fit and eye spacer, the IPD adjustment wheel, signing in, the wireless adapter, ergonomic accessories, hand strap installation, and head strap and light blocker installation.

Valve has said the Steam Frame is due to launch this summer. The leaked material did not include pricing, which is expected to be high given the ongoing RAM shortage pushing up computer hardware costs — the headset includes 16GB of RAM. Valve recently began selling the Steam Machine and Steam Controller, with the base 512GB Steam Machine priced at $1,049.
