Summer is traditionally the busiest travel season, as many head off to enjoy the most popular cities and attractions across Europe and the United States. However, alongside the millions of tourists drawn to famous destinations each year, large crowds also attract pickpockets, who take advantage of dense gatherings and distracted visitors to steal belongings.

A roundup covering ten cities in Europe and the US points out that travelers should be especially vigilant there and keep a closer watch on their personal belongings, including wallets, documents and other valuables. The heavy flow of visitors in these locations creates favorable conditions for thieves to operate unnoticed, meaning caution is advised even when visiting the best-known and most popular destinations.

The situation is a reminder that even experienced travelers can fall victim to pickpockets if they fail to pay enough attention to their surroundings in densely packed tourist areas. The compilers of the roundup note that the level of risk rises specifically during the summer months, when visitor numbers in these cities reach their annual peak.

Travelers planning trips are reminded that caution and closer monitoring of one's belongings can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of theft, particularly in places where large numbers of people from different countries gather.
