Roadworks continue on 50 sections of Latvia's state road network, some delays up to 45 minutes
State road operator LVC reports ongoing repair works on 50 sections of the national road network, with waiting times reaching up to 45 minutes at some sites. Drivers are advised to check current traffic restrictions before travelling.
State joint-stock company Latvian State Roads (LVC) has reported that repair works are currently underway on 50 sections of the national road network, including 13 main and 13 regional roads, as well as on ten bridges and overpasses. In several locations traffic is being redirected or controlled by temporary traffic lights, causing significant delays.
Longest delays
The longest expected crossing time — up to 45 minutes — is on the Tīnūži–Koknese road, between the Kranciems quarry and the Emergency Brigade Park, where traffic is regulated by a single temporary traffic light and speed limits of 50 and 70 km/h are in place.
About 40 minutes may be needed to pass through the Daugavpils highway section between Gospori and Nīcgale, as well as sections of the Valdgale–Roja road (between Valdemārpils and Rude) and the Gulbene–Balvi–Viļaka–Russian border road (between Litene and Balvi).
Other affected sections
Crossing the Daugavpils bypass junction and the section leading to Svente is expected to take around half an hour, as is the section of the Jelgava highway from the Lielvircava turnoff to the Lithuanian border. On the Vidzeme highway between Sigulda and Augšlīgatne, drivers should allow about 25 minutes, while on the Liepāja highway between Blīdene and Purvakrogs cemetery the delay is around 20 minutes.
On the Ilmāja–Priekule–Lithuanian border road, four traffic-light-controlled sections between Priekule and the border may add up to 35 minutes. Meanwhile, on the Bauska–Aizkraukle road between Ozolaine and Bārbele, a single temporary traffic light is in operation and the section is closed to transit traffic; crossing it takes around 25 minutes.
LVC is urging drivers to follow road signs and temporary traffic arrangements, and to check up-to-date information on its website before travelling through the affected areas.
