Vasco da Gama close to signing Argentine midfielder Alan Lescano
Brazilian club Vasco da Gama is nearing a deal with Argentinos Juniors for 24-year-old midfielder Alan Lescano, who could become the club's fifth signing of the transfer window.

Rio de Janeiro club Vasco da Gama is close to completing the signing of Argentine midfielder Alan Lescano from Argentinos Juniors. The 24-year-old, nicknamed "Pipa" in Argentina, could become Vasco's fifth new signing in this transfer window.
Deal details
Sources differ slightly on the fee. Brazilian outlet ge.globo.com reports the deal is worth around $7 million (roughly R$36 million). Argentine journalist César Luis Merlo, cited by NETVASCO, reports a higher figure — $7.5 million plus up to $1.5 million in performance-based add-ons. According to Merlo, the payment terms were recently improved, and the player is set to sign a four-year contract.
According to ge.globo.com, Vasco has already submitted the required guarantees and expects a so-called DIP loan to be approved in the coming days, which would provide the funds to finalize the deal. The outlet states that an agreement between the player, Argentinos Juniors and Vasco has essentially already been reached.
Player profile and context
Lescano came through the youth ranks at Gimnasia before joining Argentinos Juniors in 2023. His best season came in 2024, when he played 45 matches, scored 12 goals and added four assists. This year he has appeared in 27 games and scored five goals, according to O Dia.
Lescano has reportedly topped Vasco's scouting list, and per ge.globo.com, he was visibly moved when Argentinos Juniors fans pleaded with him to stay after the team's match last Sunday. Internally, Vasco views him as a player who could step straight into the starting lineup, with significant potential. He can play either as an advanced number 10, close to the forwards, or as a deeper-lying midfielder with an attacking profile — a role currently missing from Vasco's squad.
Before the reported Lescano deal, Vasco had already completed four signings this window, according to O Dia: left-back Paulinho, midfielder Santiago Sosa, and forwards Facundo Colidio and Bruno Duarte.
Sporting context
Vasco currently finds itself in a mixed situation: the club has reached the quarterfinals of both the Copa do Brasil and the Copa Sudamericana, but sits in the second-to-last place in the Brazilian league, under serious threat of relegation.
