US Capitol Police say they arrested a driver this week after discovering a large wooden guillotine in the bed of his pickup truck in Washington, D.C. The man now faces a charge of carrying a dangerous weapon, according to a police statement.
The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Philan-Tam-Duy Le, from Julian, California. Officers spotted his illegally parked truck shortly after 3:00 pm on Tuesday along the 100 block of East Capitol Street, a major thoroughfare running through the heart of Capitol Hill.
Police said the man had driven to the capital from California, and investigators are now looking into his background to understand what brought him to Washington.
Photos released by Capitol Police on their website and social media show what appears to be a full-scale wooden guillotine sitting in the truck bed. Officers seized the device, though it remains unclear whether it was operational.
