Washington state police called to home find lynx instead of burglar
A household in Washington state reported strange noises and called police, but the suspected intruder turned out to be a lynx. Officers safely trapped the animal using a drone.
Residents of a private home in Washington state experienced an unusual incident. After hearing suspicious sounds and knocking inside the house, they immediately called 911, suspecting an attempted burglary. When officers arrived, they discovered that the uninvited guest was not a human intruder but a lynx.
Police officers spotted the animal sitting at the top of the stairs. To avoid endangering anyone, including the animal, they decided to deploy a drone. The unmanned aircraft allowed officers to monitor the lynx’s movements from a safe distance and steer it in a safe direction.
With the drone’s help, the lynx was cornered and isolated in one of the rooms until specialists from the Department of Fish and Wildlife arrived. The animal was sedated and later released unharmed in a nearby nature reserve.
Police noted that no one was injured during the incident — not people, not officers, and not the animal itself. Authorities believe the lynx first climbed a tree and then entered the house through an open window while chasing the residents’ cat. Fortunately, the cat was also found alive and well.
