Woman finds her laundry moved to dryer at self-service laundromat – online debate erupts
A woman shared on Threads how she found her washed clothes placed in a dryer by someone else at a self-service laundromat. The company's rules state that customers may remove left-behind laundry so others can use the machines.
A user of a self-service laundromat, Evija, has sparked a lively discussion on the social media platform Threads after sharing an unusual experience. She said she regularly uses Laundromat and had been satisfied with the service, but recently got a surprise when she came to collect her laundry. The washing machines, including those next to hers, were empty. She then spotted her clothes in a dryer, with the door closed. Although someone had apparently tried to help, she described the feeling as unpleasant.
Commenters had different views. One user, Elīna, noted that in Sweden such laundry rooms are common in apartment buildings and it is not unusual for people to forget their laundry, especially in winter. She said she sometimes moves others' clothes to the dryer, particularly if she thinks a family with a small child may have fallen asleep or something happened. Another commenter, Līga, suggested that those who do not want strangers touching their belongings should stay next to the machine until the wash is finished. A more pragmatic user argued that every machine shows the exact time when the programme ends, and leaving finished laundry in the machine inconveniences others. They added that shared spaces should be used with respect.
The company's rules, however, are clear. Laundromat advises customers not to leave laundry unattended while it is being washed or dried. Once the programme has ended, items must be removed immediately. If a customer fails to do so, other clients have the right to take out the left laundry so they can use the machine or dryer. The company also states that it is not responsible for clothing or other items that have been left unattended.
