As Latvia holds the main and final day of voting in the Saeima election on October 3, 2026, authorities note that while no systematic disinformation campaigns have been detected, foreign experience shows false information can be used to influence voters on election day itself.

Today, October 3, 2026, marks the main and final day of voting in Latvia's 14th Saeima election. Authorities have not so far identified any large-scale or systematic disinformation campaigns targeting this election. However, experience from other countries shows that false news and misleading information can be used to influence voters specifically on election day, when many decisions are made at the last minute.

For this reason, experts and media outlets are urging the public to remain especially vigilant today, to be able to recognize possible disinformation, and to know how to respond if they encounter it. Although no specific incidents suggesting a targeted influence campaign against this election have been recorded in Latvia so far, international experience shows that election day is often a moment when the risk of disinformation increases.

This is explained by the fact that public attention is particularly high on election day, while the time available to verify information is limited. Under these conditions, false or distorted information can spread faster and reach a wider audience than it would on an ordinary day. For this reason, a critical approach to any election-related information is considered especially important on this day.

Voters are advised to remain cautious, not to rely on first impressions, and to confirm the reliability of a source before believing or sharing information further. Such caution can help reduce the potential impact of disinformation on the electoral process.
