Wales will not fear Portugal's stars, says James
A weakened Wales squad opens its UEFA Nations League A campaign against a star-studded Portugal side in Lisbon on Thursday, with midfielder Jordan James insisting the team will not be overawed.
Wales will face Portugal in Lisbon on Thursday in the opening match of their UEFA Nations League A campaign, missing several key players from their squad. Alongside the already-absent Joe Rodon and Dylan Lawlor, Wales has also lost Karl Darlow, Nathan Broadhead and talisman Harry Wilson to withdrawals.
Wales returned to the top tier of the Nations League after winning their League B group in 2024, and now face a tough test against a Portuguese team packed with talent.
Portugal's squad includes Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, Joao Neves and Bruno Fernandes, along with 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo.
No fear
Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Jordan James said Wales will not be intimidated by their opponents as the team looks for its first win since beating North Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier last November.
James acknowledged that Portugal's squad is undoubtedly among the best in the world, but said this would not change his team's approach to the match.
