Welsh gymnast Ruby Evans secured Wales' first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Sunday, winning the women's floor final. The 19-year-old performed the last routine of the competition and finished ahead of England's Abigail Martin, who took silver, while her teammate Shantae-Eve Amankwaah claimed bronze.
Evans had been in tears on Sunday after a disappointing sixth-place finish in the all-around individual competition, following Wales' fourth place in the team event. However, after Welsh identical twins Abigail and Emily Roper won bronze medals within hours of each other on Monday, Evans delivered gold. It was the first victory for Team Wales in Scotland and a ninth overall medal for Wales, alongside two silver and six bronze.
Additionally, boxer Connor Williams has guaranteed a podium finish after reaching the semi-finals.
