Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Exceeds 1,700
The death toll from the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to over 1,700, with more than 5,000 injured. Rescue teams continue searching through rubble, though the critical 72-hour survival window has passed.

Rising Casualty Numbers
Venezuelan authorities have reported that the death toll from the recent earthquakes has surpassed 1,700, up from the previously reported 1,450 on Sunday. Delcy Rodríguez, brother of interim President Delcy Rodríguez, also announced that over 5,000 people have been injured.
Damage and Rescue Efforts
Out of approximately 800 buildings affected by the quake, 189 have completely collapsed. Emergency units from Venezuela and other countries are still searching the rubble, although experts estimate that survival chances diminish rapidly after the first 72 hours, which have now passed.
Earthquake Details
On Wednesday evening, two powerful earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 struck near the coastal city of Morón. They were followed by more than 600 aftershocks, including a 4.2 magnitude tremor on Monday that Rodríguez said caused panic. The US Geological Survey, however, recorded that aftershock at 4.6 magnitude.
