A man named Gil was rescued alive from the rubble in Venezuela after eight days, having been found on Saturday. Hundreds of rescuers from seven countries participated in the operation.

In Venezuela, a man named Gil was rescued alive after spending eight days trapped under rubble. He was found on Saturday by hundreds of rescuers working against the clock. The rescue operation involved teams from Venezuela, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, Portugal and the United States.
The access ducts built by rescuers to reach Gil collapsed several times, highlighting the dangers faced by both the rescuers and Gil himself. Overnight, search teams finally established visual contact with Gil.
Footage captured by a small camera inserted into the rubble where Gil was trapped shows a Chilean firefighter asking Gil to turn his head toward the camera. One of his eyes was bloodshot, and he was wearing a face mask that rescuers had earlier passed to him through a small hole to protect him from dust and debris created by their efforts. The firefighter also asked him to put on goggles to protect his eyes as rescuers continued to carefully dig away at the surrounding rubble.
