US Vice President JD Vance has reportedly canceled a planned trip to Switzerland, where he was due to participate in talks with Iran regarding the recently signed memorandum of understanding. The negotiations were scheduled to take place on Friday, June 19, in Bürgenstock, in the Swiss canton of Nidwalden, with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar also present.

A White House spokesperson told US media on Thursday night that Vance had delayed his trip due to logistical challenges. The Swiss foreign ministry confirmed to Agence France-Presse on Friday that the planned talks had been postponed. 'Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these talks. The relevant preparatory work at Bürgenstock is continuing,' the ministry said.

On Wednesday, June 17, US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a preliminary agreement aimed at ending the Iran war. The provisional deal gives the two sides 60 days to reach a final agreement. Under its terms, the US is required to remove its naval blockade of Iran, while Tehran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also 'reaffirms that it shall not procure or develop nuclear weapons.' Both nations also agreed to the 'immediate' termination of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon.
