Two rescued from smoke-filled apartment in Ventspils; multiple fires reported across Latvia
Firefighters rescued two people from a smoke-filled apartment in Ventspils after unattended cooking caused a fire. Other fires were reported in the Smiltene region, Riga, and Jūrmala over the past day.

In Ventspils, on P. Stradiņa Street, a fire broke out in a second-floor apartment of a four-story building due to unattended cooking on a stove. Rescuers received the call at 22:39 and extinguished the fire within half an hour, rescuing two people from the smoke-filled apartment.
At 11:23, firefighters responded to Blome Parish in Smiltene Municipality, where an attic fire involving electrical wiring and insulation covered 0.5 square meters in a two-story house. Before firefighters arrived, 11 people evacuated the building. The operation concluded at 12:45.
In Riga, on Olgas Street, an extension cord fire occurred on the first floor of a five-story building, covering 0.5 square meters. One person evacuated before firefighters arrived, and the fire was extinguished before their arrival.
At 16:16, a call came in for a sauna fire on Kleistes Street in Jūrmala, covering 20 square meters. Two people evacuated the sauna before firefighters arrived. The fire was extinguished by 18:10.
Over the past 24 hours, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received 79 calls: 20 for firefighting, 41 for rescue operations, and 18 false alarms.
