Ventspils basketball team secures convincing win over Liepāja in exhibition game
Latvian vice-champions Ventspils beat Liepāja 86:68 at home in a Wednesday exhibition match. Ronijs Degrejs led the winners with 19 points.

Basketball club Ventspils claimed a clear victory over Liepāja in a home exhibition game on Wednesday, the club announced on its Facebook page. Latvia's reigning vice-champions dominated the match, closing it out with a final score of 86:68.
The top performer for Ventspils was Ronijs Degrejs, who scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds. Bogdans Briņuks was the second-most productive player, contributing 13 points and five rebounds. Meanwhile, Romels Mansels recorded a near triple-double, finishing with 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Previous results and upcoming schedule
This was not Ventspils' first exhibition match of the preseason. The club had earlier lost to Lithuanian side Gargždai 67:107, before bouncing back with a 103:67 win over another Lithuanian club, Jonava.
More exhibition games are on the horizon for the Ventspils squad. On Thursday, the team will host Ogre at home, before traveling to face Lithuanian club Mažeikiai on September 16. Another match against an opponent yet to be announced is scheduled for September 19.
Last season's achievements
In the previous season, Ventspils finished as Latvia's basketball vice-champions and also took second place in the Latvian Cup, losing both finals to Valmiera. In the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League, the team advanced as far as the quarterfinals.
