€4.8 Million Invested in Modernization of Ventspils Hospital

Ventspils Hospital has completed a major modernization project worth €4.8 million. The project, which began in 2022, has enabled the purchase of new medical technologies and improved patient care.

Investments by Area

Major investments were made in spinal surgery (€1.28 million), ophthalmology (€887,000), medical gas infrastructure (€413,000), endoscopy (€254,000), hemodialysis (€249,000), and intensive care (€186,000). Additionally, €497,000 was allocated for surgical services at the main hospital and €108,000 at the Talsi branch.

New Equipment

The hospital replaced two anesthesia machines, acquired patient warming systems, and specialized operating table equipment for trauma surgeries. Previously, only one operating room had a dedicated trauma table; now two rooms can handle trauma surgeries simultaneously. The Talsi branch received a new anesthesia machine and warming system.

Increase in Surgery Volume

Since 2022, the number of trauma surgeries has increased by 83% (343 operations). Urological surgeries rose from 14 in 2022 to 228 in 2025, thanks to a urological surgery unit purchased in 2023. In 2024, a laparoscopic surgery set for gynecology was also acquired.

Other Improvements

With support from the Recovery Fund, hospital beds were replaced with electrically adjustable ones, laboratory equipment was expanded, and ICT infrastructure was upgraded – new servers, disk arrays, switches, and a firewall were installed. A robotic cleaning machine was also purchased for corridors and lobbies.
