Man detained in Riga's Vermanes Garden on suspicion of drug dealing
Video surveillance operators of the Riga Municipal Police spotted a man in Vermanes Garden who appeared to be selling pills. Officers detained him, and the State Police are handling the case further.

Operators at the video surveillance centre of the Riga Municipal Police noticed suspicious activity in Vermanes Garden, a park in central Riga, shortly before 1 p.m. on 23 October: a man was possibly selling narcotic substances. A municipal police patrol sent to the scene detained him. The municipal police gave the details to the news portal nra.lv.
What the cameras showed
The operators' attention was drawn to a group of people, among whom was the man in question. Camera footage shows him pulling a transparent bag, possibly containing pills, out of his underwear. He hands the pills to other people and receives money in return.
The nearest municipal police patrol was immediately dispatched to the location.
Search and next steps
Officers detained the man and searched him. A considerable sum of cash and two pills were found in his bag and jacket. The detained man claimed the pills were cold medicine.
State Police officers were called in to carry out further procedural steps.
The municipal police reminded the public that unlawful possession, purchase and sale of narcotic substances carries criminal liability.
