Indecent photos found at children's playground in Vērmane Garden alarm parents

A Riga woman named Anna was walking with her sister and children at the children's playground in Vērmane Garden when she noticed a photograph lying on the ground. She initially picked it up so the children would not see it, but after scanning the area realized it was not an isolated find.

Several indecent images showing human genital areas were discovered scattered around the playground. Parents suspected the items might not be actual photographs but rather drawings or illustrations taken from some publication. One image carried text in German, with a child's drawing depicting a toilet visit shown beneath it.

Parents' concerns

Anna said the discovery left her uneasy and changed how she views people around the playground, raising suspicions toward passersby. She also raised the question of whether surveillance cameras in the area could help identify who left the images and how they ended up there.

TV3's programme "Degpunktā" established that Vērmane Garden does have video surveillance cameras, though none are installed directly at the children's playground.

Police assessment

The found materials were handed over to the State Police. Police representative Gita Gžibovska explained that after reviewing the materials, no identifiable individuals or signs of a criminal offence were found, so the case was logged as risk information for preventive purposes.

Who left the photographs at the playground and why remains unknown. Parents visiting public playgrounds are advised to stay alert and pay attention to what their children find nearby.
