History Museum's Autumn Festival to let visitors mint a Livonian Order-era coin

On September 19, the National History Museum of Latvia will host an event called "Autumn Festival at the Museum," marking the opening of its new season. The program is designed to appeal to both adults and children through a variety of activities.

What's on offer

One of the featured activities will let visitors mint their own coin modeled on those from the era of the Livonian Order, offering a hands-on look at medieval craftsmanship and the history of coinage on Latvian territory.

Visitors will also be able to explore Latvian history through guided tours, with two very different guides on offer: the museum's own director and an 11-year-old boy the museum describes as a young historian. This setup gives attendees a choice between differing perspectives on historical facts and storytelling styles.

The festival will also include medieval games, recreating the pastimes and daily activities of earlier centuries. In addition, the evening program includes fairy tales intended for adult audiences — an unconventional format that departs from the usual children-oriented museum events.

The museum says the program has been designed to draw visitors of different ages and to offer not just a traditional look at its exhibits but an interactive, hands-on encounter with history.
