Jurmala beach was hit by a natural element overnight on July 9, leaving significant damage to coastal cafes. Wind blew away umbrellas, overturned tables and chairs, while water reached almost to the shore. All morning, cafe owners had to clean up the aftermath of the storm.

Entrepreneurs admit that this turn of events was unexpected – they received no alerts about the approaching storm, neither via SMS nor other means. LSM investigated why warnings were not sent.

The exact extent of damage is still being assessed. The storm arrived without prior warning, highlighting the imperfections of weather forecasting and warning systems.
