Storm badly damages psychologist and actress Diāna Zande's property
An overnight storm knocked out power lines, felled trees and damaged plants at Diāna Zande's home, with the heaviest loss being one of two large old oak trees, which crushed a cucumber greenhouse as it fell.
Latvian psychologist and actress Diāna Zande shared on social media that an overnight storm caused significant damage to her property. A fallen oak in the forest knocked out the power line, trees came down across the road, and tall hydrangea bushes in the yard were broken.
The most painful loss, however, was one of two large old oak trees on the property, which fell during the storm and crushed a cucumber greenhouse. Zande says she is not too upset about the greenhouse itself, since it can be rebuilt, and the cucumbers had already been almost fully harvested. Trickier is the situation with her jalapeño pepper plants, now pinned beneath the massive oak branches — she expects she won't be able to reach them anytime soon and will simply have to forgo this year's pepper harvest.
Regarding the oak tree itself, Zande expresses genuine sadness. The tree had stood tall long before she was born and had become an integral part of her family's yard and her own life — she once lay beneath it listening to the vote count from the May 4th commemoration in 2023, her young children napped in strollers under its branches, and it had served as a spot for coffee, conversation and reflection, alongside her spring flower meadow.
Zande concludes that loss is simply part of life and cannot be undone or reversed. She says she plans to allow herself to grieve today and then work on accepting what happened.
