Storm halts train services on several Latvian routes
A strong storm on Sunday morning damaged railway infrastructure, forcing the halt of train services on several Latvian routes, including to Tukums, Skulte, Aizkraukle and Jelgava, with other trains delayed.

A powerful storm caused damage to railway infrastructure early Sunday, prompting national carrier AS "Pasažieru vilciens" (operating under the "Vivi" brand) to temporarily suspend train services on several routes.
Affected routes
Service has been halted on the Riga–Tukums II, Riga–Skulte and Riga–Aizkraukle routes. The carrier expects to gradually resume traffic on these lines around 9:00, once storm-related damage has been repaired. On the Riga–Jelgava route, electric train service has also been suspended, with resumption planned around 10:00.
The company stressed that these timelines are preliminary and could change depending on how the storm develops and whether new damage to the rail infrastructure occurs. Even after service resumes, trains will need time to return to their normal schedules, meaning some delays are still expected initially.
Replacement transport and delays
To partially maintain passenger transport on the Tukums line, two buses have been assigned to run from Tukums II station to Riga, departing at 4:40 and 6:30. They stop in Tukums I, Ķemeri, Sloka, Dubulti and at Riga Central Station.
A diesel train has also been assigned on the Riga–Skrīveri route, originally scheduled to leave Riga at around 3:40.
Other services continue to run but with delays: the train from Rēzekne to Riga, normally departing at 4:36, is running about 25 minutes late, while the Daugavpils–Riga train, scheduled to depart at 3:48, is delayed by roughly an hour.
