Storm forces several flights to Riga to divert to other countries
Due to an approaching storm with strong winds and heavy rain on Saturday evening, several flights bound for Riga Airport were redirected to airports in Poland, Finland and Sweden. Departing flights are also delayed.

Because of severe weather conditions this evening, several flights scheduled to land at Riga Airport were diverted to airports abroad, according to information published on the airport's website.
Diverted flights
A Ryanair flight from Manchester, originally due to land in Riga after 10 pm, was redirected to Gdansk, Poland. A flight from Faro, Portugal was sent to Helsinki Airport in Finland, while a flight from Catania, Italy landed at Stockholm Arlanda Airport in Sweden.
Departing flights from Riga were also reported delayed. The airport has urged passengers and people meeting arrivals to check the latest updates on its website or contact their airlines directly.
Storm warnings issued
The disruptions come as Latvia's Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVGMC) forecast a storm with very heavy rain for Saturday evening. The agency has issued orange, yellow and red warnings for strong wind and heavy rainfall in Riga and across the country.
As a result of the hazardous weather, a number of outdoor events planned throughout Latvia have been cancelled.
