Storm disrupts wedding of "Ezītis miglā" bar co-owner in Kurzeme

On August 22, while a strong storm battered Latvia and led to the cancellation of many public events, Ernando Gamarra, co-owner of the bar "Ezītis miglā," married his wife Diāna. Speaking to Delfi, the couple said they decided not to postpone the celebration because forecasts suggested the storm might bypass the Kurzeme region. That turned out not to be the case.

Toward the end of the dinner, the venue lost power and the music stopped, but within minutes candles were brought out and the evening continued in a romantic atmosphere. Music and stage lighting were kept going thanks to a backup battery the DJ had on hand, which lasted several hours; later, a second battery brought by a childhood friend of Ernando's extended the celebration further.

The band "Baltinos," made up of Latin Americans living in Latvia, performed at the wedding, reflecting both Ernando's heritage and his ties to Latvia. Without electricity, the band played a semi-acoustic set. Guests were also surprised when women from the Suiti cultural region arrived for the traditional "mičošana" veiling ceremony, which organizers had assumed would not take place. Master of ceremonies Māris Grigalis, who brought his own drums, had quietly prepared a backup plan for the ritual that even the bride and groom hadn't known about.

The storm also caused practical problems: trees fell on the property, and firefighters spent several hours helping clear them. Ernando's brother and his wife's uncle used a chainsaw to free a car that had been struck by a falling oak tree; its sunroof glass and a window were shattered, so the damage was temporarily covered with garbage bags to keep water out. A second car suffered far more severe damage and was completely crushed, though the insurer reportedly agreed to cover its full value.
