Storm aftermath still disrupting daily life across Latgale
Consequences of a recent storm continue to affect daily life in Latgale, with thousands of households without power and some areas lacking water and communications. Residents and services are adapting while repairs continue.

Latgale region is still dealing with the aftermath of a recent storm that has disrupted residents' daily routines for several days. Thousands of households remain without electricity, and in some areas people are also without water, internet and mobile phone connections.
Because of the power and communication outages, many shops in the region have had to close, unable to operate without electricity. Several cash machines are also out of service, making it harder for residents to access cash. Public transport has been affected as well, with disruptions to bus and other services in some areas.
Authorities working to restore services
Emergency services and local municipalities are continuing efforts to repair the damage and restore interrupted services. In the meantime, residents are having to adjust to daily life without the conveniences they normally rely on.
Some residents had already learned from past experience to prepare in advance. A resident of Pilda parish named Vladimir bought a generator after an earlier storm, and this time, when the power went out again, he felt the effects of the storm far less than those without a backup power source.
