On Saturday evening, a person died in Jelgava after the structural elements of a building collapsed, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) reported to the LETA news agency through its press representative, Viktorija Gribuste.

Damage reported across several regions

The Jelgava incident was not the only serious case reported that evening. In Aizkraukle municipality, a person was struck by a falling tree, an event apparently linked to the same adverse weather conditions affecting the country.

Meanwhile, in Bauska municipality, a firefighter-rescuer was injured while working to clear the aftermath of the storm. This suggests that the rescue operations themselves carried heightened risk under the prevailing conditions.

The VUGD representative confirmed these incidents, though further details about the identity of the deceased, the condition of the injured, and the precise circumstances have not yet been made public. The service continues working to address storm damage across various parts of Latvia.
