Last weekend, the "Scheldewindeke" cycling race took place in Belgium, with 79 athletes from various countries participating. Latvia was represented by seven riders: Edvards Vēvers, Ralfs Zaļeskis, Olivers Šika, Roberts Judins, Gustavs Patriks Cīrulis, Rihards Bondars, and Oskars Pauls Štrauhmanis. The course was 67.5 kilometers long, featuring multiple climbs per lap.

From the start, Edvards Vēvers was very active, breaking away at the fourth kilometer together with an American rider. Later, two more Americans joined them, forming the leading group. Vēvers remained aggressive while competitors tried to drop him, but failed. The race was decided in a sprint finish, where the Latvian secured second place. The winner was Nathan Peterson, who finished faster. Vēvers' time was 1 hour, 37 minutes, and 38 seconds. This was his first podium finish at such a level.

Other Latvians also performed well. Roberts Judins finished eighth, Oskars Pauls Štrauhmanis ninth, and Olivers Šika tenth. They all finished 1 minute and 12 seconds behind the winner. Gustavs Patriks Cīrulis placed 39th. Unfortunately, Ralfs Zaļeskis and Rihards Bondars (who experienced a crash) were forced to withdraw.

Another local race is scheduled for Saturday for the Latvian cyclists.
