Latvia's Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) has released new data on household food spending for 2025. According to the figures, the average household spent €318 per month on groceries and food products. When calculated per person living in the household, monthly food spending amounted to €151.

Spending growth over six years

The CSB reports that over the past six years, household spending on food has increased by 53.5%. However, this rise in spending has lagged behind the overall increase in food prices during the same period — spending growth fell short of price growth by 3.8 percentage points.

This suggests that while households have been spending steadily more money on food, the growth in their actual spending has not fully kept pace with rising prices, potentially indicating efforts by consumers to adjust their buying habits or choose cheaper products to limit the increase in their food bills.
