A new athlete joins the Latvian athletics ranks

The Latvian Athletics Union (LVS) has announced that middle-distance runner Berenisa Klejē-Merla will from now on represent Latvia in competition. The news was shared in an official statement from the federation.

Klejē-Merla specialises in middle-distance running - a discipline in which athletes compete over distances longer than sprints but shorter than marathons or other long-distance events. The LVS statement did not provide further details about the athlete's previous sporting career or specific plans for upcoming competitions.

A change of national representation in athletics typically means the athlete will from now on compete under the colours of the new country at official events, including international championships, with such eligibility confirmed in line with the rules of the international athletics federation.

The announcement indicates that the Latvian national athletics team is adding to its roster in the middle-distance disciplines, which could potentially strengthen the country's competitiveness in both domestic and international events. The statement did not specify when the athlete will make her first appearance representing Latvia.
