Three fires extinguished in Vidzeme over past day; dog rescued from culvert

Over the past 24 hours, firefighters in Vidzeme responded to three fires and three rescue operations, with one call being a false alarm. A dry grass fire, a car engine compartment fire, and a burning tree were extinguished, while a dog stuck in a culvert was freed in Madona municipality.

The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) Vidzeme regional office received seven calls between 6:30 a.m. on 4 August and 6:30 a.m. on 5 August. Three calls concerned fires, three were rescue operations, and one was a false alarm, senior inspector Sandra Vējiņa told the portal “Valmieras Ziņas”.

In Augšlīgatne, Cēsis municipality, a car engine compartment burned over an area of 0.03 square metres; the fire was put out before firefighters arrived. In Valmiermuiža, Valmiera municipality, a call was received at 12:09 about dry grass burning near an electricity pole over 400 square metres; work at the scene concluded at 13:42. In Trikāta, also in Valmiera municipality, a tree was burning over an area of 2 square metres.

During rescue operations, firefighters in Cesvaine parish, Madona municipality, freed a dog that had become trapped in a culvert under a road. The animal was released and returned to its owner.

Across Latvia, VUGD received 59 calls during the same period: 22 to extinguish fires, including one forest fire, 21 for rescue operations, and 16 false alarms.
