Ieviņš Accordion Tradition Revives in Vidzeme
The Ieviņš accordion tradition in Vidzeme is experiencing a revival: after nearly disappearing 15 years ago, instruments are being restored and a new generation is learning to play.

One of Vidzeme's cultural identities, the tradition of the Ieviņš accordions, is experiencing a revival. These instruments are listed in the national cultural heritage register. About 15 years ago, the situation was critical: only a few players remained, and the instruments themselves were in poor technical condition.
Now, the Ieviņš accordions are back in favor. Restoration work is underway, and more young people are learning to play. A special gathering of Ieviņš accordion players is expected soon, which will further promote the preservation and popularization of this tradition.
