Five Fires Extinguished in Vidzeme Over One Day
Between the mornings of 6 and 7 October, rescuers in Vidzeme received seven calls, five of them to fires. The largest blaze was in Cēsis, where a 100 m2 wooden annex burned.

The Vidzeme regional office of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received seven calls between 6:30 a.m. on 6 October and 6:30 a.m. on 7 October. Five were to fires, one was for rescue work, and one turned out to be a false alarm. The information was provided to the portal Valmieras Ziņas by Irita Slavinska, senior inspector at the VUGD Prevention Department.
Fires in Valmiera Municipality
Around 10 a.m., a passenger car burned in Valmiera Parish, with the fire covering 3 m2. At about 11 a.m., firefighters went to Trikāta Parish, where household items were burning in a garage over 4 m2. At 1:30 p.m., a call came from Brengulis Parish, where an electricity pole burned over 0.5 m2.
Cēsis Municipality and Cēsis
At 2:44 p.m., the service received a call to Vaive Parish in Cēsis Municipality. A mobile phone was burning on the ground floor of a two-storey public building, covering 0.01 m2, but the fire went out before firefighters arrived. A total of 57 people were evacuated from the building. Rescuers inspected the premises, and work at the scene ended at 3:15 p.m.
During the night, at 1:13 a.m., a call was received to Jāņa Poruka Street in Cēsis, where a single-storey wooden annex burned over 100 m2. The fire was put out at 3:13 a.m.
Collision in Kocēni Parish
At 4:27 p.m., rescuers were called to Kocēni Parish, where two passenger cars and a passenger minibus collided. People got out of the cars on their own. Firefighters disconnected the battery terminals on all vehicles, and work at the scene finished at about 5 p.m.
Totals for the day
Overall, over the past 24 hours VUGD received 42 calls: 15 to fires, 17 to rescue work, and ten were false alarms.
