Vidzeme firefighters responded to 11 calls over the past 24 hours
Between September 8 and 9, the State Fire and Rescue Service's Vidzeme regional department responded to 11 calls, including a serious traffic accident in Salacgrīva that left two people injured. Nationwide, the service logged 51 calls.
Between 6:30 a.m. on September 8 and 6:30 a.m. on September 9, the Vidzeme regional department of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received 11 calls, according to Sandra Vējiņa, senior inspector of VUGD's Prevention Department. One call involved firefighting, eight involved rescue operations, and one turned out to be a false alarm.
Collision in Salacgrīva
The most serious incident occurred yesterday at 11:40 a.m., when two trucks collided in Salacgrīva, in Limbaži municipality. Firefighters extracted two injured people from the vehicles and handed them over to Emergency Medical Service paramedics. Crews also prevented a diesel fuel and gas leak from the damaged vehicles. Work at the scene wrapped up shortly after 4 p.m.
Car fire in Gulbene and a fallen tree in Smiltene
At 12:13 p.m., crews were called to Nākotnes Street in Gulbene, where the trunk and roughly three square meters of the passenger compartment ceiling of a car were on fire. The response there concluded at 1:20 p.m.
Another call came from Smiltene parish, in Smiltene municipality, where firefighters cleared a fallen tree from the roadway.
Nationwide figures
Across Latvia during the same 24-hour period, VUGD received a total of 51 calls — 15 for firefighting, 26 for rescue operations, and ten that turned out to be false alarms.
