Hurricane Polo weakens but still batters Mexico's Pacific coast with powerful waves

Hurricane Polo remains a threat along Mexico's Pacific coast even after weakening from Category 5, the storm's peak intensity, down to Category 4. As the storm passes offshore, its swell has already damaged buildings and other structures along Playa Azul beach.

In Lazaro Cardenas, residents have been filling sandbags and stacking them along the seafront in an effort to protect local businesses from the pounding waves. Military personnel have also been deployed to the beach area as the swell continues to reach the shoreline and nearby properties.

Local business owners remain concerned about the possibility of further damage as Polo continues its path offshore. Authorities and residents are keeping watch, since despite the downgrade the storm still carries significant force, posing an ongoing risk to coastal infrastructure and public safety.
