Williams sisters to play doubles at Cincinnati Open

Serena and Venus Williams are set to compete together in the women's doubles at the Cincinnati Open after receiving a wildcard entry. The WTA 1000 event, scheduled from 11 to 23 August in Ohio, will mark the sisters' first doubles appearance since the 2022 US Open.

The pair had originally planned to play doubles at Wimbledon in July, but Serena, who is 44, suffered a knee injury during her singles comeback loss to Australia's Maya Joint. That injury forced them to withdraw from the tournament.

This doubles comeback could also pave the way for Serena to return to the US Open later this year. Her third-round defeat at Flushing Meadows four years ago had been her last Grand Slam appearance until she featured at Wimbledon this summer. Serena currently sits one title short of the all-time record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles, jointly held by Margaret Court and Novak Djokovic.

Together, Venus and Serena have claimed 14 major doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals. Venus, aged 46, has also received a wildcard into the singles draw of the Cincinnati Open.
