Drug Lab Uncovered in Apartment Building in Viljandi
Following a tip from vigilant citizens, police have busted a 39-year-old drug manufacturer in Viljandi. The suspect, previously convicted for drug offenses, had over 200 poppy plants and equipment for making methamphetamine.

Thanks to information from alert citizens, police in Viljandi have shut down a drug laboratory operating in a multi-apartment residential building. On June 9, a 39-year-old man was charged with a drug crime. During a search of his apartment, officers found more than 200 growing opium poppy plants and various chemicals. Preliminary data indicate the man was producing methamphetamine directly in the apartment building.
Law enforcement officials noted that drug manufacturers typically operate covertly and hide their activities, making the discovery of a drug lab in Viljandi County a rare occurrence. The prosecutor's office and police added that methamphetamine production carries risks of explosion, fire, or release of toxic gases, thereby endangering neighbors. Furthermore, methamphetamine is highly addictive and, once on the streets, can ruin lives.
The suspect is already known to police, having been previously convicted for illegal drug trafficking. To prevent further crimes, the prosecutor requested the court to detain the man, and the court ordered his arrest for an initial two months. Further investigation will determine the full scale of his drug-related activities.
