Two young bears wander into yards of private homes in Estonia's Viljandi County

Residents of several private households in Estonia's Viljandi County have reported seeing two young bears wandering through their yards over the past few days.

The cubs were first spotted on Thursday in the Leie area, where they lingered near a house for a while — even rubbing their backs against a balcony — before moving on. The sighting was reported by the program "Aktuaalne Kaamera."

On Friday, two young bears were seen again nearby, this time in the yard of a property in the Kaavere area.

Hunters urge caution

The Estonian Hunters' Society said that while watching young bears is certainly interesting, people should not forget that they remain predators. At present, however, these particular cubs do not pose a serious threat.

It remains uncertain whether the young bears will be able to survive the coming winter on their own.
