Vilnius warns of fake QR stickers on parking payment machines
Vilnius authorities have warned drivers about fraudulent QR stickers placed on parking payment machines. Scanning them leads to a fake payment page where bank card details are stolen.
Vilnius district administration has issued a warning on social media about a new scam targeting drivers and visitors. Fraudsters are attaching fake QR code stickers to parking payment machines, according to Lithuanian news outlet Lrytas.
When scanned, the codes redirect users to a fraudulent payment page. If a person enters their bank card details, the money ends up with the scammers instead of the parking operator.
The Šnipiškės elderate posted a message on Facebook urging people not to scan any extra QR stickers on payment machines. It also advised that if anyone notices people putting up such stickers, they should, if safe, take photos or videos and call the police at 112.
The local authority reminded drivers that the safest way to pay for parking is through the official JUDU mobile app. Using the app helps avoid the risks associated with tampered payment machines.
The warning serves as a reminder for travelers to stay vigilant when paying for parking in unfamiliar cities and to check machines for any suspicious stickers before making a payment.
