The Vilson Family Reveals Secrets of Their Home 'Rūķi'
Actor Mārtiņš Vilsons and his wife Zane live in 'Rūķi' near Mērsrags, found after their son Gustavs opened the door with the first key.

Actor Mārtiņš Vilsons, together with his wife Zane and their four children – Gustavs, Jēkabs, Gundega, and Frīda – have lived in the house named 'Rūķi' in Mērsraga parish, close to the sea, for about fifteen years. The eldest son Gustavs studies at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and moved out a year ago. Jēkabs completed his National Armed Forces service in Ādaži this year, Gundega graduated from the Emīls Dārziņš Music School, and Frīda is enjoying her summer break.
In 2012, the family decided to leave the hustle and bustle of Riga and look for a home closer to nature. Their requirements were clear: the house had to be in this part of Latvia, near the sea, with few neighbors, and on the sea side of the highway so children wouldn't have to cross the road. Zane Vilsone says they found the house in winter, and from the first moment they unlocked the door, they knew it was their home.
Mārtiņš recalls that the realtor gave them a bundle of keys, and he handed it to his son Gustavs, thinking that if he opened the door with the first key, the house was meant for them. Gustavs succeeded on the first try, and they never looked for other options. The house is a little over an hour's drive from Riga and has become a haven of peace and inspiration for the family.
