Virslīga: Riga FC Face Grobiņa in Title Race Test at End of Round 34
Round 34 of Latvia's top-flight football league ends tonight with Riga FC against Grobiņa. Riga need a win to keep their hopes of the championship alive.

Round 34 of the Latvian top football division, the Tonybet Virslīga, ends tonight with a match between Riga FC, from the capital, and FK Grobiņa. The game starts at 18:00 on the reserve pitch of the Daugava stadium in Liepāja and will be shown live on the Sportacentrs.com portal and the TV4 channel.
The match matters at both ends of the table. Riga, coached by Adrians Guļa, need a win to keep realistic hopes of becoming league champions. If the teams draw, Riga's chances will be only mathematical, because rival RFS would have to take no points from their remaining games against Grobiņa and Riga. A defeat would end even those mathematical chances.
For Grobiņa, three points would remove the threat from Tukums 2000 in the battle over a place in the relegation play-off zone.
Previous meetings
Riga have won all three of this season's meetings with Grobiņa, who failed to score in any of them. The clubs have met 10 times in total, and Grobiņa, from the Kurzeme region, have never won. Their only point against Riga came last November, when Riga had already secured the title.
Riga also do not have a European fixture to worry about in this match: their next game in the UEFA Conference League, a continental club competition, is set for 5 November.
League table
Before this game, leaders RFS have 86 points and Riga are second with 79 points after 33 matches. Grobiņa have 29 points after 33 matches, while Tukums 2000 have 25 points after 34.
