The tension in the Latvian 'Tonybet' Virslīga is rising as champions RFS failed to win at home against Auda, settling for a 1-1 draw. RFS now leads Riga FC by just one point after their rivals defeated Jelgava 3-0. In the match, RFS had only two shots on target, and Auda missed a chance to win after a VAR decision awarded RFS a penalty.
In other matches, BFC Daugavpils, with a hat-trick from Mamadu Silla, beat Liepāja 3-1. Grobiņa defeated Tukums 2000 3-1, while Ogre United won 2-1 away at Super Nova.
European qualification begins this week: Riga FC will face Armenia's Ararat-Armenia in the Champions League on July 7. On July 9, RFS travel to Northern Ireland to play Glentoran, and Liepāja host Montenegro's Dečič in the Conference League. Auda will face FCSB later in July.
In the league, round 23 will see some clubs play in the Latvian Cup while others focus on European ties. The battle for positions remains tight, with only small gaps between fourth and ninth places.
