Virumaa College of TalTech Receives Record Number of Applications in a Decade
Virumaa College of Tallinn University of Technology has received a record number of applicant submissions this year, the highest in the last ten years. Starting August 1, the college will become a more independent regional academic unit.
Virumaa College of Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) has received a record number of applications from prospective students this year, marking the highest figure in the past decade, according to the college.
More than 300 applications were submitted. The most popular specialty was the management of mechanical engineering and energy technology processes. Information technology and chemical technology programs also attracted significant interest.
As of August 1, Virumaa College will gain a more independent status, separating from the Faculty of Engineering to become a regional academic unit. This change will allow the college to develop programs not only in engineering but also in other fields, expand research activities, and increase the number of doctoral students. The college does not rule out the possibility of resuming teacher training in the future.
Next year, the college plans to launch new programs and update existing ones. Director Mare Roosileht stated that one new program will focus on digital content creation. Additionally, the master's program in energy will be updated, and the circular economy program will undergo slight modifications.
Currently, around 200 applicants have confirmed their intention to study at the college, a noticeable increase compared to previous years.
