Recruits Arrive at State Defense Service Across Latvia
On Friday, July 17, a thousand young people arrived at six National Armed Forces units across Latvia to begin service in the State Defense Service, with the majority being volunteers.

Friday, July 17, marked the beginning of a new chapter for hundreds of young people across Latvia as they reported for duty in the State Defense Service. The day was filled with emotion, tearful goodbyes, and the start of a new experience for families whose loved ones joined the service.
In total, approximately one thousand recruits arrived at six units of the National Armed Forces (NAF) throughout the country. The vast majority are volunteers who chose to serve of their own accord. Most of the recruits will serve for 11 months, while only a few have opted for a five-year commitment in the Zemessardze (National Guard).
This recruitment cycle demonstrates the willingness of young Latvians to contribute to national defense. The NAF units are prepared to welcome the new servicemen and provide the necessary training and support.
