The passenger rail operator Vivi has made public the full list of names given to its 32 electric trains. The names came out of a partnership with the company "Latvijas valsts meži" (LVM), which began in April. Over the course of the cooperation, the trains received new names every month, and now all of the electric trains have one.

What the names stand for

The names describe the diversity of Latvian trees, birds, insects, plants and forest produce. They were selected by experts from "Latvijas valsts meži" rather than by the operator itself.

The complete list

Over eight months, the trains were given these names: Bite, Apodziņš, Priede, Egle, Zalktis, Mednis, Ērglis, Bērzs, Paparde, Ozols, Spāre, Stirna, Mellene, Gailene, Liepa, Kadiķis, Skudra, Lācis, Pupuķis, Cīrulis, Baravika, Briedis, Apse, Osis, Dzērvene, Brūklene, Zaķis, Dzilna, as well as Lūsis, Dzenis, Kļava and Alnis.

The list includes names of trees and shrubs, such as Priede, Egle, Ozols, Liepa and Kļava, along with animal and bird names, such as Lācis, Briedis, Zaķis, Cīrulis and Dzenis. It also covers plants and forest produce, including Mellene, Brūklene, Dzērvene and Baravika.

The source does not say which name belongs to which specific train, nor whether the names will be used beyond the markings on the trains.
