Representatives of Ukraine and Russia will meet next week, on 10 and 11 November, for talks in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, with the United States acting as mediator. US special envoy for Ukraine Steve Witkoff announced this on Monday. The meeting is part of efforts to find a peaceful settlement to the war Russia launched against Ukraine.

Witkoff said the talks will concentrate on post-war security arrangements, reducing tensions, humanitarian assistance and the next steps toward peace.

Meeting in Brussels as well

Separately, US negotiators will meet representatives of France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the European Union and NATO in Brussels later this week. According to Witkoff, participants will discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, Europe's post-war security architecture and economic options for supporting Ukraine's reconstruction.

Background

In October, Russian President Vladimir Putin said after meeting Witkoff that he was ready to resume trilateral talks. Witkoff met Putin in St Petersburg, a day after holding talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European officials.

Zelensky expressed hope that the European Union would also take part in the negotiations. On Monday morning he called for greater pressure on Moscow until it has no choice but to end the war.
