Witkoff and Kushner arrive in Kyiv for talks with Zelensky

US President Donald Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv by train on Sunday, an AFP correspondent reported from the Ukrainian capital's railway station.

The two envoys are set to hold talks in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. While Witkoff and Kushner have visited Moscow on multiple occasions before, this is their first trip to the Ukrainian capital.

Meeting with Putin beforehand

A day earlier, on Saturday, the two envoys met in Moscow with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The US White House said afterward that the talks addressed possible plans for ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. The American envoys will now discuss similar options for halting the fighting with Zelensky.

Truce on air strikes

In connection with the envoys' visit, both sides are temporarily holding back from attacks. Ukraine has said it will refrain from air strikes on Moscow while US officials are in Russia and Ukraine. The Kremlin, for its part, said Putin had ordered a three-day halt to attacks on Kyiv.
