Viture Pro 2 XR Glasses Let the DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly With an Immersive View
Drone enthusiast Shawn of Air Photography tested Viture Pro 2 XR glasses with the DJI Mini 5 Pro, a drone that was never made compatible with DJI goggles. The glasses connect to the DJI RC 2 controller with one cable and draw power from it.
Viture Pro 2 XR glasses, which look like sunglasses and contain Sony micro OLED screens, can be used as drone flight glasses. Shawn from the drone content channel Air Photography tested them in practice, as reported by the drone industry site DroneXL. The test used the compact DJI Mini 5 Pro, which the manufacturer did not make compatible with DJI's own goggles.
Connection and image
The glasses connect with a single cable to the bottom of the DJI RC 2 controller, with the tapered end going into the arm of the glasses. They draw power from the controller, so no separate charging is needed. The image is equivalent to a 146-inch screen, and brightness reaches 1,600 nits, which helps on sunny days. Plugging them in does not turn off the controller's own screen.
The glasses are open underneath, so the user can look down at the controller screen or take them off. Peripheral vision and awareness of surroundings are kept.
Comfort and adjustment
The glasses weigh about 63 grams, come with several nose pieces, and have arms that tilt. Unlike some other models, they have adjustable diopters, and each eye can be set separately, so prescription lenses are not required. Viture cites a technology called UltraClarity 3.0, which keeps the image sharp out to the edges. Shawn said the corners looked good.
He has not worn them for more than half an hour at a time, but found them fairly comfortable. In his view, comfort matters less for drone flying, since flights usually last 20 to 40 minutes.
Summary
The test was a short flight in autumn scenery. According to the author, the experience is not identical to official DJI goggles, but it is immersive, and the glasses work with almost any DJI drone. They can also be connected to a smartphone, tablet, gaming console or laptop.
