Volleyball Euro in Istanbul: Latvia falls to Slovenia in five-set thriller
Latvia's women's volleyball team lost 2:3 to Slovenia in a marathon five-set group-stage match at the European Championship in Istanbul, a defeat that effectively ends its playoff hopes.

Latvia's national women's volleyball team, coached by Daniele Capriotti, played another group-stage match of the European Championship in Istanbul, this time facing Slovenia. The tournament is currently being held simultaneously in four countries, including Turkey, where Latvia's matches are taking place.
A five-set battle
The encounter turned into a genuine battle lasting nearly three hours and stretching to a full five sets. The set scores were 23:25, 19:25, 25:15, 25:13 and 15:12, with Slovenia's players ultimately winning 3:2.
Chances missed
The match can fairly be described as one of missed opportunities for the Latvian side, which had chances to close it out but failed to convert them. With this loss, the team is left with essentially no realistic hope of reaching the championship's playoff stage.
