Demand for Volkswagen's new electric model, the ID. Polo, has turned out higher than the manufacturer initially anticipated. Even before deliveries to customers in Europe began, the company had already received more than 30,000 orders, and it now warns that waiting times for certain trims could stretch to as long as 10 months.

Strong interest meets limited output

According to Volkswagen, the extended delivery times result not only from strong customer demand but also from the fact that the Martorell plant was originally planned around smaller production volumes. Exact delivery timing will vary for each buyer depending on the chosen vehicle configuration. Demand has been particularly strong in Germany, where sales figures are already exceeding initial forecasts. Similarly high interest has been reported for the related electric models from Škoda and Cupra.

Price as the main draw

One of the key reasons behind the high demand is pricing — the base Trend version starts at 24,995 euros, allowing Volkswagen to finally offer an electric car priced below the long-anticipated 25,000-euro threshold.

Technical specifications

The ID. Polo will be offered with front-wheel drive and two power outputs — the base version produces 115 horsepower, while the more powerful variant delivers around 211 horsepower; both are limited to a top speed of 160 km/h. With the smaller 37 kWh battery, the car can travel up to 323 kilometers on the WLTP cycle, while the 52 kWh version reaches up to 455 kilometers on a single charge. On fast DC charging, the smaller battery supports up to 88 kW and the larger one up to 105 kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in roughly 23 and 24 minutes respectively.
