Volkswagen is preparing to expand its electric ID.3 lineup with a sporty GTI version, set to reach buyers in early 2027. According to the company's press materials, the new model will become the most powerful series-production GTI in the brand's history.

Technical specifications

The ID.3 GTI will use rear-wheel drive, with its electric motor producing 240 kW, or 326 horsepower. The car will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds using the standard Launch Control function. Maximum torque reaches 545 Nm, while top speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h.

The vehicle will be fitted with a lithium-ion battery holding 79 kWh of net energy capacity. It can be charged at up to 183 kW, and on a full charge the car can travel as far as 600 kilometers.

Interior and design

Inside, the sporty character is emphasized by a steering wheel with a red marker at the 12 o'clock position, along with a red stripe running across the full width of the dashboard. The sport seat upholstery features a pattern inspired by the classic checkered design first introduced on the 1976 Golf GTI. Drivers will have access to several driving modes — Eco, Comfort, Sport, Individual — as well as a dedicated GTI mode.

Externally, five color options will be offered, including the brand's classic Tornado Red. The sporty character is further reinforced by DCC adaptive sport suspension and 20-inch alloy wheels.

With this model, Volkswagen combines the traditional sporty GTI identity with a fully electric drivetrain.
